Ben Hopkins

Born in Hong Kong 1969, Ben Hopkins is a screenwriter, filmmaker and novelist. Educated at Oxford and the Royal College of Art in the UK, he lives in Berlin and Istanbul. His feature debut Simon Magus 1999 was entered into the 49th Berlin International Film Festival. His 2008 film, The Market: A Tale of Trade (Turkish: Pazar: Bir Ticaret Masalı) won awards at film festivals in Locarno, Ghent and Antalya, where it was the first film directed by a foreigner to win an award in the national competition. He also directed The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz (2000) and the documentaries Footprints (2003) and 37 Uses for Dead Sheep (2006).
