Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne

Jean-Pierre Dardenne was born in 1951 in Engis, Belgium. He was originally a professional actor, and his brother Luc Dardenne (born in 1954) a student of philosophy. In 1975 the two founded the production company Devires, and the company Films Derives Production followed in 1981. They dedicated themselves to making documentary films on video, but it was primarily their feature-film work that made a name of them. The brothers are two times winners of the Cannes “Golden Palm” for their films Rosetta (1999) and The Child (2005). In 2008 they received the Best Screenplay award at Cannes for Lorna’s Silence.
