Andrey Zvyagintsev

Andrey Zvyagintsev is born in Novosibirsk in 1964. He graduated from Acting Department of Moscow State University of Theatre Art. He worked as actor at different independent theatre projects. In year 2000 he made his first TV debute as a director for short TV films Busido, Obscure and Choice for TV series Black Room. For his feature film debute The Return he won the Golden Lion in Venice and was hailed as European Discovery of the Year in 2003. His next movie, The Banishment, received the award for „Best male role” at the The Cannes Film Festival in 2007. In 2011, also in Cannes, his third full-length film, Elena, won the Special Jury Prize in the program „Un certain regard.”
