Fatih Akin

Fatih Akin was born in Hamburg on 25 Aug 1973, to Turkish parents. He took up studies in visual communications at the Hamburg College of Fine Art (HfbK) in 1994, graduating in the year 2000. He made his debut as a feature film director in 1998 with Kurz und Schmerzlos, which received numerous awards and, like Solino, was nominated for a German Film Award. He has occasionally appeared as an actor. He achieves his greatest success in 2004 with Gegen die Wand which is awarded with a Golden Bear at Berlinale. His previous feature film Auf der anderen Seite is awarded with the Best Screenplay award in Cannes ’07, four German Film awards, the European Film Award for Best Screenplay, etc.
