Bulgarian director, born in 1957 in Sofia. She graduates film directing at NATFA (1982). For her documentary debut Year of 1990 she won “Prix Futura” in Berlin. Winner of “Golden Rose” for her documentary Murder Stories. This film played an important role in forming the public opinion during the debate against the death penalty held in Bulgarian in the 90s. Her feature debut Letter to America (2001) won 9 national awards and was chosen for Bulgarian Oscar entry. Screened at more than 45 festivals, it won FIPRESCI Prize in Kiev and Special Prize of the Jury in Istanbul. Her second feature Investigation has won 16 national awards, including Special Prize of the Jury and Critics’ Award at Varna ’06. Among the international awards of the film are prizes for best film in Cottbus and for best Balkan and best Bulgarian film at Sofia Film Fest.
